In the park your board has to spin easily, ride both ways and forgive landings. Jacket and trousers change too: a looser fit lets you move freely in every trick.

Brands in store: Salomon, Nitro, Roxy, Quiksilver, Uvex, Level, Reusch

## The kit, piece by piece

- **Helmet**: Compulsory on the slopes, so in the park too, and certified to EN 1077. It should sit firmly with your goggles on and, ideally, have a system that reduces rotational forces in a crash. (Uvex)
- **Goggles**: A flat-light lens lets you read the kicker lip and the landing even under cloud. In full sun you need S3: goggles with interchangeable lenses cover both. (Uvex)
- **Loose jacket**: A roomy cut, long at the back, so you move freely for grabs and stay covered when you sit in the snow. A powder skirt and vents for when you heat up between laps. (Quiksilver, Roxy)
- **Mittens**: Warmer than gloves, because your fingers keep each other warm. For the park, look for a reinforced palm that copes with hands down on hard snow and a cuff that closes over your sleeve. (Level, Reusch)
- **Loose trousers**: A roomy fit doesn't hold your knees back in ollies and grabs. A reinforced seat and boot gaiters keep snow out when you sit down to strap in. (Quiksilver, Roxy)
- **Twin board**: Identical nose and tail with a centred stance: the board rides the same forwards and switch. Soft to medium flex, and 2–4 cm shorter than the size for your weight. (Salomon, Nitro)
- **Bindings**: Softer bindings with a low highback give freedom for butters and presses; stiffer ones respond better on big kickers. Symmetrical angles, such as +15° and −15°, make riding switch easier. (Salomon, Nitro)
- **Boots**: A soft to medium flex absorbs landings and lets your ankle bend. Your heel should stay down when you lean forward: if it lifts, the boot is too big. (Salomon, Nitro)

## How to choose a park board

- **Length**: Start from the manufacturer's chart for your weight and take off 2–4 cm: a shorter board spins sooner and is lighter to throw around. For big kickers keep the full length, which is more stable on landing.
- **Waist width**: Boot size still decides. A board that's too wide is slow edge to edge on rails; from about EU 44–45 (UK 10) you often need a wide.
- **Camber and rocker**: For rails and boxes, rocker or a flat profile is less likely to catch an edge. For kickers, camber, or a hybrid with camber underfoot, gives pop at take-off and holds on landing.
- **Flex and shape**: Soft flex for jibbing and butters, medium for jumps. A twin shape with a centred stance rides the same forwards and switch.

## Livigno's snowparks

On Mottolino is the Olympic Livigno Snowpark, which hosted the snowboard and freestyle events of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, including big air, halfpipe and slopestyle. It's run by Livigno Next, served by chairlift no. 26, and reopens to the public as soon as there's enough snow. If you're starting out, The Beach on Carosello 3000 is an easy snowpark at the top of the San Rocco gondola.

## What do you ride in the park?

- **Rails and boxes**: A soft twin with rocker or a flat profile, a few centimetres shorter: it's less likely to catch an edge and forgives mistakes. Soft bindings and boots.
- **Kickers**: Medium flex, camber or a hybrid with camber underfoot, and full length: pop at take-off and stability on landing. Stiffer bindings respond better.
- **A bit of everything**: A hybrid twin with a medium-soft flex handles rails, small jumps and the piste. Start on the easiest line and move up only when you land clean.

## Park kit, tried together

We help you choose a board, bindings and boots with matching stiffness, and give you starting binding angles for the park. Try loose jackets and trousers on with your helmet and goggles. If you want to test first, snowboards can be rented online through Alpy.

## Frequently asked questions

### Where is the snowpark in Livigno?

On Mottolino is the Olympic Livigno Snowpark, run by Livigno Next and served by chairlift no. 26, which hosted the 2026 Olympic snowboard and freestyle events. On Carosello 3000 is The Beach, an easy snowpark at the top of the San Rocco gondola. Opening dates and conditions are on the lift companies' websites.

### What board do I need for the park?

A twin, with identical nose and tail and a centred stance, a soft to medium flex, and 2–4 cm shorter than the size for your weight. Rocker or flat for rails and boxes, camber or hybrid for kickers. If you also ride a lot of piste, a hybrid with a medium flex is the compromise.

### Do I need a helmet in the park?

Yes: in Italy helmets are compulsory for everyone in ski areas, snowboarders included (art. 17, Legislative Decree 40/2021, amended in 2025), and you fall more often in the park than on piste. Choose one certified to EN 1077 that sits firmly with your goggles. Replace it after a hard impact.

### Mittens or gloves for freestyle?

Many park riders wear mittens: they're warmer and, with a reinforced palm, cope with hands down on hard snow. Gloves give more grip when you strap in or for precise grabs. If you feel the cold, add a liner.

### Can I ride a park board on piste?

Yes, but a very soft board chatters at speed and holds less on hard snow. If you split your time between park and piste, pick a hybrid twin with a medium flex. If you ride almost only on piste, look at an all-mountain board.
