Snowboard,from park to powder.
The right snowboard depends on your weight, your boot size and where you ride. Here are the basics for choosing a board; the full kit, piece by piece, is on the Freestyle and Freeride pages.

How to choose a board
- Chin to noseLength
Weight matters most, so use the manufacturer's size chart. As a quick check, a board stood on its tail reaches between your chin and nose; go a few centimetres shorter for the park and a few longer for powder.
- Wide from EU 44–45Waist width
Match it to your boot size. Toes and heels can hang over slightly; too far and they drag in the snow mid-turn. From about EU 44–45 (UK 10) you often need a wide board.
- Hybrid profileCamber and rocker
Camber is the arch under your feet: grip on hard snow and pop out of the turn. Rocker lifts the nose and tail: the board floats in powder and is more forgiving. Hybrid profiles combine the two.
- Soft or stiffFlex
A soft board is easy and playful; a stiff one is stable at speed and on hard snow. Choose bindings and boots with a stiffness similar to the board's.

Where to ride in Livigno
Livigno's slopes sit on both sides of the valley: Carosello 3000 on one side, Mottolino on the other. On Mottolino is the Olympic Livigno Snowpark, which hosted the snowboard events of the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics; on Carosello 3000 there's The Beach, an easy snowpark. For powder days, Livigno's Avalanche Service publishes a local bulletin every morning.

G Frequently asked questions
Good to
know.
How do I know if I ride regular or goofy?
Regular means left foot forward, goofy means right foot forward. To find out, have someone give you a gentle, unexpected push from behind, or take a run-up and slide across a smooth floor in your socks: the foot you instinctively put forward goes at the front of the board. If you're unsure, try both stances on your first day.
What length snowboard do I need?
The main reference is your weight, using the manufacturer's size chart; as a quick check, the board stood on end reaches between your chin and nose. Go a few centimetres shorter for the park and a few longer for powder. Your boot size matters too, because it decides the width.
Camber or rocker for beginners?
For beginners a rocker or hybrid board works well, because it forgives mistakes and turns more easily. Full camber gives more grip and pop but asks for more precise technique. A soft to medium flex also makes learning easier.
Is a helmet compulsory for snowboarding?
Yes: in Italy helmets are compulsory for everyone, whatever their age, snowboarders included (art. 17, Legislative Decree 40/2021, amended in 2025). The helmet must be certified to the current standards. Rules can change, so check the latest ones before the season.
Can I rent a snowboard from Sport Extreme?
Yes: snowboards, boots and helmets can be rented online through Alpy and are prepared by the shop's technicians. You can pick up from the day before, after 3:30 pm, and equipment changes and cancellation are free. The 2026/27 season runs from 29 November to 30 April.
